250 delegates from 23 countries, some from as far as Australia, came to Malta for the two-day Yacht Racing Forum hosted by Yachting Malta, where the world’s leading sailors, designers, engineers, boat builders, marketers and event organisers took stock of the sport after two years of pandemic disruption.
This year’s discussions covered youth access to the sport, sailing’s commercial potential and the effect of the new Olympic classes on media coverage, alongside newer topics such as the pandemic and even blockchain.
Opening the Forum, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Hon. Dr Aaron Farrugia welcomed Malta’s return to hosting international events. He pointed to recent Yachting Malta initiatives: the Hansa 303 boats for para sailing, work on equal opportunities in sailing, and the Viva Malta offshore team, which will give Maltese sailors the chance to race internationally.
