Yachting Malta hosted a send-off for four sailors from the RMYC Sailing School who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games: Aly Badawi of Egypt, Jalise Jordan of Antigua, and Vishnu Saravannan and Nethra Kumanan of India.
Training in Malta has made the Royal Malta Yacht Club their second home. After working towards qualification, the last few months were spent fine-tuning their skills for their first Olympic Games.
Chairman John Huber hosted the event in the presence of Her Excellency Sangeeta Bahadur, High Commissioner of India, RMYC Commodore David Cremona and Luca Lactignola, the committee member responsible for the Sailing School. Huber reminded the athletes that Malta was the start of their Olympic journey and hoped they would keep Malta in their hearts wherever they go. He said the initiative is part of Yachting Malta’s effort to make Malta an international hub for sailing, from regattas and major events to training, and the perfect training ground for sailors setting their sights on Paris 2024.
The sailors will be accompanied in Tokyo by RMYC Sailing School coach Alex Denisiuc.
