Mark Herrera and Josann Attard Pulis won the 10km race at the Maqluba Edition of the Hudson Race Series on Sunday morning, while Shaun Galea and Rosalie Borg Cauchi took the honours over 5km.
The second race of the series, now running under the Hudson name, is one of the most demanding on the calendar. Its steep hills have not stopped it selling out every year since it was first held. Runners can choose between a 5km and a 10km course, which opens the race to everyone from seasoned athletes to those looking for a shorter challenge, and both distances attract some of Malta’s strongest runners.
Herrera was in fine form, leading the pack from the start and completing the hilly two-loop course in 34:51. He kept a safe distance from Leon Chetcuti, who finished second in 37:43, with Reuben Balzan (38:11) completing the podium.
Attard Pulis led the female race from start to finish, crossing the line in 41:31. Rebecca Galea was second in 45:49 and Jessica Vella third in 48:51.
Over 5km, Shaun Galea delivered another impressive performance, clocking 16:03 ahead of Darran Agius (17:11) and Charles Micallef (17:23). Rosalie Borg Cauchi was equally determined in the female race, winning in 18:57 ahead of Charyl Fava (20:09) and Gaby Mangion (21:45).
Trophies for the overall and age-group winners were presented by Race Director Charlie Demanuele. The organisers thanked Hudson for supporting the series, as well as Transport Malta, the Qrendi and Żurrieq Local Councils, the medical team and race officials.
The third race of the Hudson Race Series takes place in Dingli on Sunday 16th June.
