Yachting Malta is supporting the Trophée Bailli de Suffren, the 580 nautical mile classic yacht race that starts in Saint-Tropez on 26th June and finishes in Valletta on 10th July.
Known as the Gentleman’s Race for its history, naval etiquette and Corinthian spirit, the Trophée has brought together more than 108 classic yachts over the past twenty years. It follows in the footsteps of Pierre André de Suffren of Saint-Tropez, Bailli and Grand Cross of the Order of St John and Vice-Admiral of the French Navy under Louis XVI. The race always starts beneath his statue in the old port of Saint-Tropez and finishes in Malta.
This year the fleet will stop at Bonifacio in Corsica, Trapani in Sicily and Mġarr in Gozo before finishing at the Royal Malta Yacht Club.
“The Trophée Bailli de Suffren is the embodiment of classic yachting. It combines one’s passion for sailing, history and exploration in some of the most beautiful locations in the Mediterranean. Malta’s medieval bastions could not provide a better backdrop for these classic yachts,” said Yachting Malta Chairman John Huber.
