Yachting Malta has confirmed its support for the ORC European Championships, which the Royal Malta Yacht Club will host between 23rd April and 1st May under the authority of the Offshore Racing Congress and the Malta Sailing Federation.
Announcing the support at a press conference at the RMYC, Yachting Malta Chairman Jonathan Borg said: “Whilst Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage site, creates a perfect image, Malta is not just about offering spectacular scenes along its coastline but is renowned for its ideal sailing conditions, which have been attracting high calibre yachting events to Malta, and offers high quality services to the maritime industry.”
A substantial European fleet is expected, including proven ORC champions: Karl Kwok’s TP 52 Beau Geste (HKG), skippered by Gavin Brady (NZL), the reigning ORC Class A World Champion; Aivar Tuulberg’s Katariina II (EST), reigning ORC Class C European Champions, who will race their Swan 42 in Class B; and Ott Kikkas’s Italia 11.98 Sugar 3 (EST), the reigning ORC Class C World Champions. Their crews combine top professional and amateur talent.
Borg thanked Hon. Dr Aaron Farrugia, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, and Hon. Clifton Grima, Minister for Education and Sport, for their support.
