The final selection for the forthcoming Men’s European Under 15 Waterpolo Championships has been announced.
The selection follows the Under-15’s success at the recently held qualifying matches which took place in Malta. The boys, under the guidance of Anthony Farrugia, beat Slovenia 17-4 and drew against France 10-10, and finished on top in Group C on goal difference.
In Loule, Portugal, the team has been dealt with a challenging draw, having been placed in Group B, where they will be up against Italy, Spain, and Romania.
Malta’s first game, on the 4th July, will be against Italy, followed by Romania and Spain. One win will allow Malta to proceed to the next round of games, which will take place on the 7th of July.
“I always keep saying that we need to approach each game with a winning mentality, even if faced by stronger and more experienced teams. The boys have shown their mettle in Malta and they have shown commitment and consistency which is key to a positive approach” explained Anthony Farrugia, National Coach.
The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta expressed its gratitude towards the Health Authorities and Sport Malta for giving the team the necessary exemption to train during the lockdown period. It also expressed satisfaction at the co-operation shown by the national team players’ Clubs.
The final players’ selection is made up of Isaac Azzopardi, Gabriel Bonavia, Myron Brimmer, Dean Bugeja, Jayden Cassar, Julian Chircop, Cain Miguel Cutajar, Zak Cutajar Licari, Jayden Cutajar, Luigi Dimech, Dale Galea Mule, Enrico Mallia, Lee Montebello Brownrigg , Jamie Pace Mizzi, Elijah Schembri.
The Maltese contingent travelling to Portugal will be accompanied by National Coach Anthony Farrugia, Team Officials Rita Azzopardi, Nigel McCarthy and Physiotherapist John Xerri de Caro.
The Men’s Under -15 European Waterpolo Championships will take place in Loule, Portugal between July 4 and 11.
