Thunder Child II, holder of multiple Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) records, is in Malta on a dual mission: to set new records and to raise funds for charity.
The 22-metre powerboat, supported by the UIM, the Fédération Monégasque Motonautique, the Malta Powerboat Federation and the UK’s OCRDA and BPBA, is attempting seven UIM Offshore Class long-distance world record voyages with the 54Knots team, covering 4,000 nautical miles in 17 days. Its latest run, from Monaco to Malta in 18 hours 52 minutes, awaits UIM ratification, and a fourth attempt, a circumnavigation of Malta, Gozo and Comino, will follow if conditions allow.
The boat will be open to the public at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Marina on Saturday 17th June from 9am to 3pm and Sunday 18th June from 9am to 1pm, with donations collected for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Visitors can tour the boat, meet the crew and take home a signed limited-edition postcard.
