Team Malta finished the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra with 56 medals: 13 gold, 24 silver and 19 bronze. That placed Malta fifth in a medal table topped by Cyprus, Luxembourg and Iceland.
The Games were held in Andorra la Vella from 27th to 31st May, with nine nations competing in 160 events. Malta sent athletes in eleven sports: athletics, artistic swimming, 3×3 basketball, cycling, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, karate, rugby sevens, shooting, swimming, table tennis and tennis.
The team was led by Chef de Mission Daniel Tanti Farrugia. Tennis player Francesca Curmi and middle-distance runner Jared Micallef carried the flag at the Opening Ceremony, chosen by the Maltese Olympic Committee as athletes who, in the words of President Julian Pace Bonello, “exemplify the dedication, consistency and sporting excellence that Team Malta stands for.”
When the team was announced, MOC Director of Sport Charlene Attard explained that selection followed set performance standards, ensuring “that each selected athlete has met a benchmark of performance and readiness.”
Welcoming the media at the team announcement, Maria Vella-Galea, the MOC’s Director of Media and PR, noted that a good number of journalists would follow Team Malta throughout the Games. “Their presence is key to our efforts in bringing our athletes’ stories back to the Maltese public and inspiring the next generation of talent,” she said.
