Sprinter Thea Parnis Coleiro ran a national U18 and U20 record of 24.06 in the 200m semi-finals at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia, and went on to finish sixth in the final in 24.07. She had also reached the semi-finals of the 100m.
Malta competed in four sports, and in two for the first time. Jeremy Gatt, Malta’s first EYOF badminton player, won two of his four group matches, against Slovakia’s Samuel Fodor and Norway’s Deeptanshu Toka. Michela Scerri won her first taekwondo bout 2-0 against Austria’s Mei Hui Liu, and Alycia Cassar competed in the -63kg. In Osijek, Croatia, gymnast Sophie St. John finished 26th of 97 in the all-around and seventh in the Balance Beam final.
“We’ve seen a clear shift in mentality: we’re no longer just participating, we’re competing,” said Chef de Mission Charlene Attard. Triathlete Kai Azzopardi attended as Malta’s Young Ambassador.
