Malta has been named host of the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games, the 8th edition of the Games, which will bring around 1,150 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories to Malta and Gozo.
The programme has eight sports: swimming and para swimming, athletics and para athletics, netball, squash, triathlon, weightlifting, and, for the first time in the Games’ history, sailing and water polo.
“Malta 2027 will be a celebration of unity, youth, and excellence,” said Julian Pace Bonello, President of Commonwealth Sport Malta. “Our young athletes will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete on home soil, inspiring an entire generation.”
The announcement was made in Malta in the presence of Commonwealth Sport President Dr Donald Rukare, High Commissioner Katherine Ward and Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima.
