Malta is being represented in the LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships which are being held between the 2nd and 7th November 2021 in Kazan, Russia.
The event is taking place at the Aquatics Palace which is Russia’s and world’s largest indoor sports venue for competitions in aquatic sports.
The Maltese swimmers, Dylan Cachia, Sasha Gatt and Thomas Wareing qualified following the previously published Selection Criteria by the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta are competing in a total of 10 events between them.
In the meantime, two new short course records were established by Dylan Cachia and Sasha Gatt during competitions held yesterday, 2nd November.
Dylan Cachia swam the 400m Free in a Short Course National Record Time of 03:57.26. The previous Short Course Record was of Thomas J Woods with a time of 04:03.30 and was achieved in Istanbul in March 2021.
Sasha Gatt swam the 800m Free in a Short Course National Record Time of 08:52.04. The previous Short Course Record was of Sasha as well with a time of 09:04.88 and was achieved in Glasgow in December 2019.
Maltese swimmers will be competing in the following events:
Dylan Cachia: 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle & 800m Freestyle
Sasha Gatt: 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle & 1500m Freestyle
Thomas Wareing: 100m Individual Medley, 200m Individual Medley, 400m Individual Medley

The Maltese contingent is made up of Coach Catalin Stan, ASA President Joe Caruana Curran is attending as LEN Bureau Member, whilst ASA Swimming Vice President David Bonello as one of the LEN Swimming Officials officiating throughout the Championships. Kimberley Sevasta is accompanying the team as Physio.
Their commitments in Kazan will end on Sunday 7th November, with the contingent flying back to Malta on Monday 8th November.
