Malta won 62 medals, 23 gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze, at the second Malta Invitational Games, finishing second behind Cyprus. The Games brought 200 under-15 and under-18 athletes from 16 countries to compete in badminton, taekwondo, swimming and water polo.
Taekwondo won 16 gold, 14 silver and 8 bronze, a five-fold increase on 2022, and Malta’s first poomsae team of Jovo Mirkovic and Sinan Koruk placed second. In the pool the 4 x 50m medley team of Michela Portelli, Julienne Woods, Nirvana Micallef and Kristy Delia set a short course record of 2:04.90, and Ella Fenech Attard and Luca Grixti set age group records. Badminton won bronze through Juan Casaru and Jeremy Gatt in the boys’ doubles and Martina Clark in the girls’ singles.
“The Malta Invitational Games were created to give our young athletes valuable experience competing against strong international opponents,” said the MOC’s Director of Sport Charlene Attard.
