The Maltese Olympic Committee hosted the first Malta Invitational Games from 6th to 9th October, welcoming around 200 athletes from ten countries in bowling, taekwondo and triathlon. Malta held second place in the overall medal table going into the final day.
In taekwondo, in events given ranking status by World Taekwondo, Michela Scerri won gold, with silver for Alycia Cassar, Nathan Degiorgio, Samuel Vella and Shania Magro. The bowlers won singles gold through Dennis Mercieca and Cynthia Frendo Duca, and Frendo Duca and Tiziana Carannante won the women’s doubles by 183 pins.
Krista Kuusijarvi won the sprint duathlon at Ħal Far ahead of Danica Bonello Spiteri, and in the sprint triathlon on the Salina Coast Road Hannah Cutajar took gold, with Bonello Spiteri second and Ryan Muscat third in the men’s race.
