Yachting Malta Chairman John Huber has always argued that yachting should be one of the pillars of Maltese industry, a case set out in the November 2021 edition of Executive Traveller.
Malta’s location and expertise make it a natural destination, and its ship registry is one of the largest in Europe and the sixth-largest in the world. Becoming an international hub also means bringing international events to local venues, such as the Yacht Racing Forum coming to Malta in 2022 and the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
A study commissioned by Yachting Malta found that the 2019 Rolex Middle Sea Race generated over €2.3 million for the Maltese economy, and 94% of visitors said they would return. With a PR value of around €2.6 million, the race’s total positive economic impact reached €4.7 million.
“The Yachting Malta Coastal Race is a good training ground for the big race, where crews get to know each other and equipment gets tested,” said Huber. “The Rolex Middle Sea Race is the biggest sporting event in Malta. As a government entity, Yachting Malta will do everything to promote it.” This year Yachting Malta also supported the live stream of the race start, bringing the spectacle of Grand Harbour to viewers worldwide.
