Malta will host a round of the EurILCA Masters Series, sponsored by Yachting Malta, from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March, under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation and with the Malta ILCA Class Association.
The Masters Series is a circuit of regattas at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues for sailors over 35, across the ILCA 7, ILCA 6 and ILCA 4 rigs. Around 40 sailors are expected, with four Maltese, including former Olympian Mario Aquilina, joining sailors from Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
About nine races are planned on a trapezoid course in Marsamxett Harbour, three a day from noon. Several sailors are already in a five-day clinic at the Royal Malta Yacht Club run by SailCoach, which coaches ILCA sailors up to Olympic level.
“Malta’s potential as a major international sailing venue is being recognised by international governing bodies such as EurILCA due to Malta’s sailing conditions and facilities, which are looked at very favourably at an international level. Yachting Malta is proud to support such initiatives which keep highlighting Malta’s importance on the international yachting circuit,” said Chairman John Huber.
