Around 30 Special Olympics Malta athletes went sailing for the first time at the inaugural Malta Beach Games in Birżebbuġa, where Yachting Malta ran taster sessions on four Hansa 303 boats.
Introduced to Malta in 2022 by Yachting Malta with the Malta Sailing Federation and the local clubs, the Hansa 303 is a World Sailing class sailed in over 28 countries. It can be steered with a joystick, suits solo or double-handed sailing, and is designed for sailors of all abilities. Every local sailing club received one.
The sessions were led by Joseph Muscat, Projects and Initiatives Executive at Yachting Malta and Inclusivity Officer at the Malta Sailing Federation, with volunteers from the clubs, and Birżebbuġa Sailing Club provided two RIBs for safety. Yachting Malta remains committed to widening access to sailing with the Federation and the clubs.
