Malta has always been a seafaring nation, yet for years it had no flagship boat show. Yachting Malta relaunched the Malta Boat Show in 2024, and ahead of its bigger second edition, CEO Michael Mifsud explained why.
“For a country like ours, an island with one of the largest ship registries in the world and a maritime tradition that runs deep, the lack of a dedicated boat show simply didn’t make sense,” he said. “We wanted to create a modern, international-standard event that not only celebrates the local industry but also positions Malta as a serious player on the global stage.”
The first edition exceeded expectations, and this year exhibitor numbers are up, with a wider range of products and a much stronger international element. That growth, Mifsud said, comes from Yachting Malta’s presence at shows such as Palma, Cannes and Dubai: “Many of the exhibitors and partners we met overseas are seeking to become a part of the Malta Boat Show.” Visitors will find everything from paddleboards, kayaks, jet-skis and water toys to luxury sailing yachts and superyachts, along with marine technology, financing, insurance and training.
Government involvement is crucial, he added. “Their presence demonstrates that yachting is not just about private leisure; it’s an integral part of Malta’s economy.”
