Snowboarder Jenise Spiteri was Malta’s sole competitor and flag bearer at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Malta’s third Winter Games after Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018.
California-based Spiteri, whose father is Maltese and whose paternal grandparents hail from Ħamrun, qualified in her own right at the World Cup in Laax, Switzerland, with support from the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship scheme. In the Snowboard Half-Pipe qualification at the Yunding Snow Park she scored 25.25 on her second run to finish 21st, in a group that included PyeongChang champion Chloe Kim.
“Although we are competing against larger and more experienced countries, what we might lack in experience we make up for in spirit,” said Chef de Mission Charlene Attard, the MOC’s Director of Sport.
