Despite her relatively short Triathlon career Hannah Pace has certainly made a name for herself and Malta having won a number of accolades and titles in the various distances that Triathlon competitions offer. Pace is no stranger to places on podiums, both locally and internationally.
Pace’s latest international accomplishment was achieved in the 20-24 Age Group at the 2017 Kitzbühel ETU Triathlon European Championships. These championships, considered to be the largest on the International Triathlon Union race calendar, attract thousands of triathletes and some of the best athletes in Europe which included professional athletes and Olympians.
Pace exited the 1.5km swim in Lake Schwarzee in third place behind Eliza Monachini (ITA) and Anna Moitzi (AUT). Though first two places changed in the 42km cycle route, Pace kept her placing on the tough route, putting into play her international experience and keeping a strong pace for the testing route which included an approximately 200m steep climb followed by downhill that would challenge even the most seasoned of cyclists. The 10km run route started with a few short climbs and continued with a mix of undulating trail roads. Pace went on to register the fastest run in her Age Group.
Pace’s efforts at the gruelling Championships saw her win a Bronze Medal. Gold went to British triathlete Kate MacTear, whilst Silver went to homegrown athlete Anna Moitzi.
“The European Championship attract some of the best European talent, and the competition becomes harder each year. In 2014 I competed here, albeit on a slightly different route making it to fifth place. I was determined to better my time and position even though this time round the route was tougher” – Hannah Pace.
Pace’s next commitments will take place this weekend when she will compete at the 2017 Düsseldorf ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships.
