First leg of the Eurosport Malta International Challenge Marathon took place earlier on today, when approximately 200 athletes took part in the 10 mile (16.094km) race.
The 10 mile route in the environs of Siggiewi took athletes round some of the most scenic routes on the western part of Malta.
Winners for the first leg of this unique race were Mario Grech (Starmax Athletic Club) who finished the race in a time of 57 minutes 50 seconds and Tara Abdilla (Team Barry) who completed the course in 1 hour 8 minutes 51 seconds. The winner of the Gatorade Relay Team challenge for the first day was veteran runner Jonathan Balzan, representing Team Barry.
The second stage of the Eurosport Malta International Challenge Marathon will continue on Saturday 22nd November in Marsascala where runners will be completing the 5km course.
