Malta is set to welcome over 300 swimmers, most of which hail from mainland Europe but others from far flung countries such as Brazil. Joining these swimmers will be a number of  local athletes which include veteran Isabelle Zarb and rookie Anjelika Ruggier.

The objective for X-Waters, an initiative brought over to the island by Agones SFC, is to bring to the general public’s attention the challenges of marine pollution  and the necessity to  become as plastic free as possible. These events draw people's understanding to the problem of environmental pollution and the development of new environmental habits and standards to create less stress on the ecosystem.

The X-Waters team will be setting up an expo at the Ramla Bay Hotel on Saturday 19th, October from 1pm to 7pm. During this time athletes can finalise their registration and attend Race Briefing prior to the race on Sunday.

X-Waters Malta will take place on Sunday 20th October.  Various distances, ranging from 1km to 6km for adult participants will be available.  The 1km distance will be a triangular loop, that starts and ends on Marfa beach.   The 2.3km distance will see swimmers proceed to Comino and return to Marfa, whilst the 6km distance will be a swim from Gozo to Malta.

Shorter swims of 50m to 200m will be organised for children between 8 and 12 years of age.

Races start at noon and electronic timing will be in place to register swimmers’ results.

A limited amount of places are still available, so all those interested in taking part are to register their interest online on www.x-waters.com by Saturday 19th October.

“Malta is once again on the forefront when it comes to organise international sporting events. X-Waters, is a fairly new concept but in just a short period of time has developed an extraordinary open water swimming challenges, which help people go outside of their comfort zone, “ explained Warren Muscat, Director, X-Waters (Malta).

X-Waters Malta is co-hosted by Agones SFC and Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club and supported by Garmin Malta, Visit Gozo,  Olimp Sport Nutrition, Nyoo Destination Wellness, Gozo Sports Board and the Ministry for Gozo.

Twelve X-Waters events will take place in 6 countries around Europe and the Middle East.
